I’ve played a lot of rpgs and the system for this one seems to be good. I haven’t run it yet but it looks fairly clean and easy to use, it focuses on the story and avoids the abundance of math that seems to characterize so many systems.[yahooquestion]warhammer+game[/yahooquestion]

A good Warhammer quest guide is a great resource to have for finding your way around in the massive world of Warhammer Online. Warhammer Elite, created by Steve Ferris, who calls himself a "no life gamer", is a perfect fit for that role. Steve has been playing MMORPGs for many years and has been involved with Warhammer Online since closed beta. He really knows his stuff and shares it all with warhammer game you in his guide.

Unlike many other games, WAR has plenty of options when it comes to leveling. This is great, as it adds variety to the game so you never have to resort to grinding your way through levels. However, if you are trying to speed level in Warhammer Online, this could be a problem if you don't know what you are doing. With so many options, it's easy to get distracted and slow down your pace of leveling. This is where Warhammer Elite can help.

Warhammer Elite clearly lays out a path to get you to level 40 without wasting a lot of time, and without missing half the content. The in-game screenshots and fully annotated maps, along with the detailed instructions and tips for completing quests, are designed to help guide you through the game as fast as possible. He even gives you pointers on how to engage the various mobs you will encounter in your questing adventures.

For anyone looking for a well written Warhammer quest guide to help you level fast in Warhammer Online, Warhammer Elite would be a great guide to consider. This guide works well for leveling in PvE quests, public quests, and RvR scenarios.

I had high hopes for Warhammer. The ideas in it are very good, and this game could have been a killer. After playing it for a year, having left once and come back, I am reluctantly leaving it again. The problem that Warhammer has been unable to resolve is player number imbalances on the servers. I’ve played on two servers and they both have the same problem, way more players playing the Destruction “bad guys” than playing for Order. Although I don’t know the actual numbers, the Order players are so outnumbered that they have practically no chance of winning in the core “open RvR”, PvP fighting. Two nights this week I was unable to find any open RvR action because all the Order player had simply left. Most of the time, Order will try to get a warband going for PvP, and will immediately be run over by Destruction warbands with twice as many players. I believe the problem is self perpetuating because new players and existing Order players will start Destruction characters to be on the winning side, making the imbalances worse. I’ve played a Destruction character also, and it got boring fast also when there is no opposition. If the trend continues, and it does appear to be getting worse, soon all the players will be on one side only. Good PvP combat should depend on teamwork and skill, not just having more fighters than the other side.
This is a serious flaw in what could have been a very good game. As it is, there is little enjoyment and a lot of frustration.

No disrespect to the developers and artists that worked on WAR, but it was a horrendous piece of work.
So they pushed the game back a year to fine-tune and polish it. Well, that didn’t help at all.

But let’s start with the good things.
First of all, public quests started out as an amazing idea. In the lower tiers, everyone participated and it was fun. But at some point, they made you grind them over and over to max out the rewards….and past the first couple tiers, you were grinding them solo and they no longer became public, or fun.
Truly the best thing WAR invented was The Tome of Knowledge. Everything you did and everything you saw was all confined into a neatly organized book. Whoever came up with that was awesome.

Unfortunately, that’s where the good things stopped.
I wanted this game to succeed. I pre-ordered it, I made several of my friends pre-order it….then I had to apologize for it :(
So what was the major flaw? For me, it was the ridiculously terrible engine. Many things they promised: massive RvR, city sieges, keep sieges, etc failed horribly due to a lacking game engine that couldn’t support more than 20 people on the screen without major lag and framerate drop. This happened on every system of every spec. And for the framerate, the graphics looked terrible. Sure, you can go and manually enable AA and all the goodies on your video card, but the jagged turd just turned into a smooth turd. Bad art is bad no matter how crisp it looks!
In addition to the terrible graphics and framerate, the engine contributed to an unplayable combat system. While the concept was solid, the implementation made it unusable. There was a lag between every button press, so it felt awkward. The spell animations never matched up with what was actually happening, thus ruining the immersion. You never controlled your character, you were controlling an interface to your character. No other game feels like that. Period.
This is the root of the problem because as they kept piling on more and more content, the engine became increasingly harder to change. They’re basically stuck on top of a really crappy base.

Even with the technical aspects aside, this game failed in class balance….another promise that wasn’t delivered. Don’t be fooled, there weren’t 20 classes. Every class had a mirror that was nearly identical, but they even failed to balance that correctly. Anyone that thinks Bright Wizards were not more overpowered than Sorcs were lying to themselves, or playing a BW. Also the Tier system looks okay on paper, but in an MMO, it makes progression EXTREMELY linear. A tiered system promotes no exploration and no long story/quest arcs. There was nothing new about the quest system, which they also promised would be revamped. There were countless videos from developers/promoters/paul barnett & co saying questing would not be a grind and it was never just ‘go kill x somethings’ or ‘go find x.’ All lies. And a few weeks into launch they reduced the XP for quest turn-ins, but didn’t add any new quests, so there were not enough quests to level up properly. You were left stuck in areas with no quests and too low of a level for the next chapter. Tiers 3 and 4 were the grinds of all grinds. I’m fine with grinding, but I came in expecting, and more importantly, promised, otherwise.
Also, it is a really bad idea when death has absolutely no consequence and basically becomes a device for traveling. That’s just bad design for an MMO where your persistent character should be worth something to you. Speaking of worth, gold is worth nothing in this game. Because gold was worth nothing, there is no economy. Of course, this was exacerbated by the fact that the crafting system was an afterthought. Nothing of value could be crafted, and the crafting system itself was overly complicated with no payoff. No, it wasn’t hard to figure out, it was just not at all intuitive. It’s just bad design.
Crafting has been done in other games and done well, so there’s no excuse. It’s not like they had to reinvent something.

I’m sure there’s a lot more wrong with this game, but I’ve tried to erase whatever I could remember of it from my mind. Sigh.

That basically sums up WAR. Epic fail on many fronts. Other games will grab the good bits and do it better.

    Pros:
    - Interesting classes and abilities
    - Fun to play while in a guild
    - Guilds level up like characters
    - Public Quests
    - Grouping is fairly easy due to the system they use
    - Tome of Knowledge is cool
    - Patches and updates are common
    - Can level up from PvE or PvP since you can XP from killing players
    - Lots of lore
    - Lots of events: holiday events and the sort

    Cons:
    - Pay per month
    - Mediocre music – this is coming from someone who greatly enjoys soundtracks from games.
    - Population imbalance: Most people play destruction
    - Class imbalance: If you compare order classes to their destruction counterparts, order mirrors are generally superior. For example, the bright wizard and sorcer are supposed to be mirrors of each other, yet bright wizard is greatly overpowered.
    - No large PvE encounters. Dungeons are 6 man at the max.
    - Laggy servers, especially in fortress battles. To solve this, Mythic simply capped the # of people allowed in a fortress, which results in people being teleported out of the battle.
    - City raids were greatly dissapointed. Was a PvE encounter and there were zero order players
    - Destruction and Order purposely avoid eachother often in PvP in order to grind renown by killing PvE targets.
    - Tons of CC
    - Rather than fix current problems, Mythic often just added new content
    - Crafting is very poor and underdeveloped
    - Obtaining items VIA PvP is very difficult compared to PvE. If you want the best stuff, you will have to PvE, despite this game being marketed to PvP players

Overall, I would recommend this game if you have a guild or a group of friends to play with, if not, I wouldn’t.

Warhammer Online launched with the intention of reaching over a Million Subscribers. As most know this mark has not been met. However the issues that hurt the games launched have been fixed. Anyone with a day to spare should download the endless trial. The endless trial offers the ability to play tier one completely free for as long as you like. That is not bad at all for a game with four tiers.

The game is great fun and the next update looks to be even better. The previous reviewer before me mentioned that the imbalance to factions was their reason for quitting. I suggest trying the game now that the next update, coming out very soon, includes a system for balancing out factions with the dogs of war system.

Got this at Christmas for $19.95 which made it a bargain from the usual $15/month they are trying to gouge me for to play this game. Now that this is back up to $30 for 2 months, I have no idea why I would buy it from here instead of a brick and mortar store around the block.

The game is entertaining, a lot like WoW with a emphasis on PvP. They also seem to be trickling out features to keep things fresh, as a new character is being released soon, and look for levels over 40 to come later this year.

This is by far the best mmorpg game in existence, don’t even waste your time with anything else.

This is actually just a game card (buying time for an online game) for Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning and the price isn’t too bad if you don’t have another way to pay. Also, many gift givers just don’t know how to shop for and what to buy a gamer and this is a great way to buy a gift for someone who already has the game.

The card itself looks very much like a credit or debit card and is very attractive, but, um, who cares? Your only going to read the numbers off of it once and probably throw it away. Honestly, why not save yourselves some money guys and just print it on a piece of thin card? Probably due to marketing factors and cosmic consequences that I, as a mere mortal, am not privy to.

As breif reveiw of the game: for Player vs. Environment (pve) play it’s mediocre, but then it’s not really geared for that. There are substantial rewards for pve play, but it’s not why you should play the game.

The real reason to buy is for Player vs. Player (pvp) and Realm vs. Realm (rvr) combat. Real people fight smarter, are sneakier than any AI and even if you get killed a dozen times in a row, the feeling of finally getting payback is not to be underestimated.

It’s very easy to find a group to rvr/pvp with and often there are groups for pve as well. The group finding mechanic is very well done.

Gear gives a nice boost, but it’s far from nessisary to be decked out in the best gear, unlike the play in other Mythic fare. In a predominately pvp environment, this is a must.

The death penalty is almost nonexistant (which, again, in a game that’s primarily pvp, is a must) and the looting system is vary inovative. The constant ebb and flow of rvr combat, with hundreds of players on each side struggling to capture territory is captivating but can also become exhausting (at least for an old dude like me) and so it’s not for everyone and not for every day. This keeps the product from getting a 5 star rating from me.

since you can now buy these time cards at Walmart, theres no reason to buy these from Amazon unless they start offering deals like they did at Christmas. By the time you add in your shipping, you are right back to the price it would cost to either buy a card from Walmart or use your credit card.

Our Games Workshop hobby development advisor (AKA guy in the warhammer shop) advised us (me and my eight year old son) to start our Warhammer hobby with this set. Our son attended a number of free hobby sessions in the shop, and started the process of painting the figures in the set.

While the kids can see the value in amassing their armies via this set, it has a number of advantages they perhaps don’t realise. Most importantly, it contains pieces that don’t require complex assembly. Secondly, the two armies have a standard set of colours for each of their troops, and therefore are relatively simple to paint. Thirdly, the armies can employ simpler strategies when it comes to finally putting them on the battlefield.

My role has been to cut out, clean up and glue the pieces together, followed by applying the black undercoat via a spray can application. This is an important additional requirement, as is the hobby starter set and a pot of metallic gold paint. My son then does the painting, providing him with a creative outlet. He gets a great sense of pride in completing the figures, and displays great patience in carefully painting each figure. He generally needs around half an hour for each one (accounting for distractions such as his younger brother).

Going back to the Games Workshop store has been very useful, especially in maintaining a relationship with the staff there, and seeing what the other hobbyists are up to – mostly teenage boys.

My eight year old hasn’t really developed much of an understanding of the rules yet, but he’s slowly getting there. He does enjoy learning about the game, and also about the fantasy world portrayed by Warhammer.

After nearly a month, he is in the home stretch for completing his painting and basing (that is adding terrain such as grass and rocks to the figure bases). From then on it will be interesting to see where his interest takes him.

Games Workshop produces many popular miniatures games WarHammer Fantasy “Battle of Skull Pass” is a good place to start for a gamer interested in conducting large battles in a fantasy setting; with modification could readily serve as guidlines for non-Games Workshop gamiing as well (ie D&D, etc).

The game is relatively complete and slowly introduces new players to its inherit mechanics. Included are two Armies, Dwarf and Goblin, dice, terrain, measuring sticks and a handy pocket-size rulebook. The figurines are reasonably detailed with robust features that make painting easy. Painting is additionally simplified by an included painting guide, that gives great tips to assemble and paint the armies rapidly.

The only things I can fault in this set are intentional faults; the game is point driven in that specific units have specific costs. There is no unit cost list provided; which means one must purchase the guidebook for each specific army to know the points value of a given army. Games Workshop miniatures are generally quite pricey, so additions to the included armies will be prohibitive. Games Workshop is often in the habit of completely revising rules and many items become obsolete in a year or two, requiring replacement of key items to stay current.

That being said at face value this is an excellent set, it may be cheaper to buy an additional copy of this game instead of trying to buy additional miniatures separately. The game includes many of the basic troops needed. The fanasy game undergoes fewer revisions and they are usually not as extreme as in other Games Workshop releases.

Me and my friends had a blast with this game . One of the aspects that makes it so fun is that the learning curve is small , we found the character creation process to unfold very smoothly and the pregenerated scenario that came with the core set was an absolute blast.

The materials are all very high quality and the art work is really well done.

At was shocked at first to see such negative reviews posted here , until I read them . Most of the people who dislike this product seem to be stuck on the older version of the game a common occurrence by older RPG vets.

If you thinking of investing the $60 the core set is well worth it.

I love the world of WFRP. It is gritty, bloody, violent, dangerous and filled with black humor and dark fantasy. This setting is different than others like D&D, it is more late Medieval/early Renaissance but still has dwarves, elves, halflings and Orcs. However, WFRP has the encroachments of the Chaos Gods, evil/alien creatures reminiscent of Lovecraftian mythos. The world of Warhammer is a perfect analogue for our own Europe, with places like the Empire (Germany), Estalia (Italy), Bretonia (France), Albion (Saxon England), Kislev (Russia/Eastern Europe), and even the jungles of Lustria (South America). I’ve been playing it since 1st ed and ran the Enemy Within campaign. When I heard they were re-publishing a new edition I worried. I didn’t know if the new system would maintain the unique elements that made WFRP Warhammer. I worried that it was going to be just another rehash of 2nd edition. I worried that it was going to be bulky, unwieldy, difficult to grasp.

My worries were all laid to rest. This system includes *everything* you need to play in *one* big box. It is a huge box filled with 4 game manuals (in full/vivid Warhammer colors and filled with some of the best art yet!!). Also included are the unique dice you need to play which are made specifically for WFRP (some have the hammer of Sigmar). Additionally you get stand up character and monster counters (in case you sold or no longer have your Games Workshop mini’s) and combat/action/spell cards (so you dont need to be referencing the game manuals every time). Everything, and I mean everything is in full color. The production values of this new edition are some of the best I have ever seen in a role playing game. I am very happy to see Fantasy Flight be the company to put this new system out (which produces some of the best board games around).
FF has also put out several pdf online supports for the system that can be downloaded/printed from their webpage and they have scheduled several new releases for this game, including an Adventurers Toolkit, a campaign box set (the Gathering Storm) and a Game Master’s Toolkit.
